THE URBAN CRAWL

This project envisions communal housing that doubles as an informal public space for the community. As a big open field located right by the Jurong East MRT Station, Bus Interchange, and Westgate Mall, our site originally serves as an alternative to the hustle and bustle of city life. It is informally used as a smoking point and resting area, especially popular amongst construction workers and employees at the mall.
My design encourages spontaneous interactions with natural spaces for the congregation. Firstly, with terracing that visually connects the communal/commercial spaces with the residential. Secondly, with housing unit plans that accommodate shared spaces between separate units, encouraging communal eating amongst neighbours.
